The Roorkee Chapter of the Indian Geotechnical Society invites all individuals and organizations engaged in the advancement and novel applications of Geotechnical Engineering to share their experiences at the Indian Geotechnical Conference 2023
The Indian National Society of Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering was established in the year 1948, soon after the second International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering held at Rotterdam. The Society was affiliated to the International Society in the same year and since then it has strived to fulfil and promote the objectives of the International Society. In December 1970, the name, Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS) was adopted. In January 1994, it hosted XIII International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering. Various Local Chapters of the IS organise annual conferences of the Society.
Indian Geotechnical Society, Roorkee Chapter Indian Geotechnical Society, Roorkee Chapter was established in 1972, with Prof. Dinesh Mohan, the then Director, Central Building Research Institute, as its founder Chairman. Subsequently eminent geotechnical engineers headed this chapter and brought laurels to the entire geotechnical community.
The IGS Roorkee chapter has always been active since its inception and contributing in the area of Geotechnical Engineering. IGS Roorkee chapter hosted the Indian Geotechnical Conferences in 1985, 2003, and 2013. The chapter has been again entrusted with the task of organizing 2023 which will be organized in association with IIT Roorkee and CSIR-CBRI Roorkee.

The institute ranks amongst the best technological institutions in the world and has contributed to all sectors of technological development. The institute completed 175 years of its existence in November, 2022.
The Central Building Research Institute, Roorkee, has been vested with the responsibility of generating, cultivating and promoting building science and technology in the service of the country. Since it's inception in 1947, the Institute has been assisting the building construction and building material industries in finding timely, appropriate and economical solutions to the problems of materials, rural and urban housing, energy conservation, efficiency, fire hazards, structural and foundation problems and disaster mitigation.
Roorkee is located on the banks of the Ganges canal on the national highway, NH 334. Roorkee is also known for Bengal Engineering Group & Centre (Bengal Sappers), one of the country's oldest cantonments. Roorkee is very near to the gateway of pilgrimage, namely Hardwar (30 km) in Uttarakhand. Rookee has a typical climate as in the plains of Northern India, with a touch of winter chill.
Roorkee is also well connected by road and rail to Delhi, Mumbai, Amritsar and Kolkata. The nearest airports are at Dehradun, Chandigarh and Delhi. It takes about 1, 3 and 4 hrs. respectively to reach these airports.
